The Simulation Argument
There's an interesting idea that seems to have been making the rounds on the philosophy blogs: The Simulation Argument, the claim that more likely than not, we are living in a computer simulation. I first saw it when Richard Chapelle attacked its critics for scientism, which led to my commenting that the idea didn't look worth defending. Then I saw a discussion on Footnotes on Epicycles, and decided to check it out. Turns out, it's not a stupid idea after all--maybe not right, but good enough to qualify as a solid mind screw.Tags: philosophy, The Simulation Argument
