Okay anonymous, you're obviously new here, so I'll go easy. For the historicity of the Bible, start here, and then read Bart Erhman's Jesus book, published in 1999 (odds are it's at your local library).
Question. If I had a PHD and wrote a book on something. A lot of people would believe me. But just because somebody has a PHD doesn't mean they know much at all. They worked really hard and spent a lot of money on school.
I'm not talking about even most people who have a PHD. But those few that do, who don't know much at all. They might know some. But a lot of lies as well.

Who said I expected to understand? You need internal coherence before understanding is possible. Once you've got that fixed, then you can show evidence from the world of verifiable evidence to show that it's not just sophistry.

PhDs are usually irrelevant. The problem is that religion is only self-referential. Science references the real world. I don't need to read some Newtonian text from a couple centuries ago to know that letting go of a rock will make it fall at 9.8 meters per second per second: I drop a few rocks while carefully measurng the results.
And before you reference Newton as a Creationist, be sure to reference something much more important than an arguer: The arguments he makes.

I'm not interested in Madonna. She isn't attractive in the face, and a bit too much bone for me. Plus, her lifestyle conflicts with mine. Not a big fan of her music in general.
